Discussion Questions

  1. Why do you think the world associates weakness with humility?  What does the world not understand about true godly humility?
  2. Practically, what does it look like when you “consider others more significant than yourselves”?  What would our church, our families, our workplaces look like if everyone actually looked “not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others”?  Why is it sometimes difficult for Christians to follow this command?
  3. In Philippians 2:5-7, Paul gives us the example of Christ and exhorts us to have this same mind ourselves.  What did Christ do for us and why?  How should this move us to follow His example?
  4. In our sermon today, we were reminded that Christ has given us what we need to obey this difficult command: His Spirit, the Scriptures, Prayer, and His Church.  Although all are necessary, which one is most significant for you and why?
  5. What does it mean that discipline will take you places motivation can only dream of?  What role does discipline play in living a humble, other-centered life?
