Passage: Luke 9:37–43

Click here for the sermon discussion questions or see them listed below. We highly encourage you to listen, think, and talk about the sermon. These are questions you can reflect on by yourself, with your family, or with your small group.

Discussion Questions

  1. Why do you think the disciples could not deliver the demon-possessed boy even though Jesus had delegated this authority to them? What happens when we try to minister to people in our own strength and through our own wisdom?
  2. When you encounter trials, suffering, fear, and desperation, to whom do you turn? Practically speaking, how does a believer “turn to God” for deliverance? When a believer turns to God in the midst of trials, what outcome can he/she expect?
  3. Spiritually speaking, how is every person similar to the demon possessed boy in our passage? How does Jesus deliver every person from their bondage?
  4. We experience Jesus’ majesty and presence during “mountain top” events such as church retreats, and other worshipful events. However, the gospel writers make it clear that the glory of God is also found in the midst of fear, pain, and trials. Explain how God’s glory can shine forth even in our suffering. How does this help you as you walk through your own valleys?
