Discussion Questions

  1. How is the rich person who struggles with materialism and the constant desire for more, similar to the poor person who is anxious and worried about never having enough? What do you think is the core struggle for both?
  2. What lessons does Jesus want His disciples to learn from the ravens and lilies?  Why is it so hard for most Christians to learn these lessons?
  3. Although many people worry about how we are going to pay the bills and put food on the table, what does this kind of worry reveal about our trust in God?  Why is this kind of worry useless?
  4. How does seeking God’s kingdom first, provide for a “higher standard of living” than even the richest most opulent lifestyle money can buy?  What do you think it means to seek the kingdom of God?
  5. What does it mean that “it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom”? How would this truth help you to sell your possessions in order to give to the needy?  What is a practical way you can do this?
