Discussion Questions

  1. How would you answer the question, ‘Why do Christians sing in church?’  What would you say to a Christian who avoids singing because they don’t have a nice voice or because they can’t carry a tune?
  2. Psalm 149 speaks of singing a ‘new song” to the Lord. How would you describe this ‘new song’?  Can singing an old hymn like “Amazing Grace” still be sung as a ‘new song’?  If so, how?
  3. In our sermon we were reminded of Miriam’s praise and worship of God because of Israel’s deliverance from 400 years of Egyptian captivity.  What dangers and enemies have you been rescued from in your life and how did this impact the way you praise the Lord?
  4. Today, although Western Christians don’t often face physical attacks from hostile enemies, we do battle against the spiritual forces of darkness in the heavenly places.  What role does the praise and worship of God have in this battle?  Why is it so important to have a “new song” always in our hearts?
