Discussion Questions:
-
As we end our 3½ year study through Luke, what impressions about Jesus have stood out most to you? How has the study of Luke’s gospel, or more generally, how does the study of God’s word impact your life and change you?
-
According to Luke, Jesus’ final act on earth was to lift up His hands and bless His disciples. Based on how humanity treated the Son of God, and how even His own disciples failed Him, what does our Lord’s final act tell us about His heart for lost sinners like you and me? Why do you think it was so important for His disciples (and for us) to understand this gracious final ‘message’ before Jesus ascended back to heaven?
-
Jesus healed the sick, fellowshiped with sinners, washed His disciples’ feet, suffered and died for our sins. God, our Creator, loves us and did all of this to save His fallen children. As Christians who say we believe all of this, why do we still find it difficult to trust Jesus with our lives, especially when we’re suffering? What can help us to trust Him more?
-
When Jesus ascended, Luke simply says, “…he parted from them and was carried up into heaven.”. There were no horses and chariots of fire, such as those that accompanied Elijah. Why do you think Jesus’ ascension is described so humbly and without fanfare? What does this imply about where the Christian’s focus and emphasis should be as we go through life?
-
The gospel of Luke ends with the disciples worshiping God. How has 3 1⁄2 years of studying the life of Jesus, impacted your worship of Him? The beauty of a single flower can be lost because there are so many of them. How can you prevent losing the beauty (and worship) of Jesus Christ in the midst of the many beautiful truths we’ve learned about Him?
