Discussion Questions:
-
“Acts is a book about the church.” As we begin our study of the book of Acts, why is it important to understand how the church began? Why is it important not to “romanticize” the early church?
-
How does Jesus view His church and how should this impact the way we view her? What would Jesus think about your attitude towards His church? Would He be pleased? Explain.
-
According to verses such as John 16:13-15, 1 Thessalonians 2:13, and Ephesians 2:17 (keep in mind Jesus never physically set foot in the church at Ephesus), what role does the Holy Spirit play in the life of the church, and how does this impact the way you approach the church and the word of God?
-
Acts 1:3 tells us that Jesus presented Himself alive to His disciples, by many proofs, for 40 days after his resurrection. Is your faith “blind”? How does your certainty in what you believe impact the way you choose a job and your spouse; the way it influences the way you raise your children; the way it directs your finances; the way it sets your priorities? Be specific.
-
We heard in the sermon that “to the degree that God reigns in us and among us, is to the degree that we are truly partakers of God’s kingdom” and that, “many want a Savior but few want a King”. In light of this, why is it so difficult for some people to enter the kingdom of God? What misconceptions about God might keep people from His kingdom?
-
The power of the Holy Spirit was and continues to be necessary for us to be witnesses for Jesus Christ. It was the power that filled Dr. Luke in his faithful service to Jesus. How does the Spirit of God move in your life, and in Hawaii Kai Church today?
