Sermon Discussion Questions:
-
The Holy Spirit is called the “paraklete” in Greek which means advocate, intercessor, consoler, comforter, helper. He is a gift given to every believer. Why do you think your heavenly Father would give you such a wonderful gift? What makes the Holy Spirit so wonderful to the believer?
-
In John 14:16, Jesus promises that He will send to His disciples “another Helper”. Why is the Holy Spirit considered another Helper and what does this help us understand about the role of the Holy Spirit?” Why is it to the advantage of Hawaii Kai Church in the year 2024 that Jesus gave us another helper?
-
If a Christian says, “I know it’s written in the Bible that the Holy Spirit is in me, but I don’t feel Him, I don’t sense an intimacy with Him”. How would you counsel that person?
-
In our sermon, we were reminded from Jeremiah 18 that we are like clay in the Potter’s hands, and through the Holy Spirit, God is shaping and forming us into the image of His Son Jesus Christ. How might this imagery help you when you are going through hardships, trials, and suffering? How can this image help you when you experience success, riches, and fame? How can this image help you to keep close to God?
-
Galatians 5:25 says, “If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.” and Ephesians 5:18 says, “And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit” Are you a person who “keeps in step with the Spirit”, and are you “filled with the Spirit”? What do these concepts mean?
-
John Stott said, “As a body without breath is a corpse, the church without the Spirit is dead.” Do you agree? Why or why not? What does a church that is filled with the Spirit look like?
