November 17, 2024 Preacher: Chris Komatsu

Passage: Hebrews 3:12–14

Click here to see the sermon discussion questions or see them listed below. We highly encourage you to listen, think, and talk about the sermon. These are questions you can reflect on by yourself, with your family, or with your small group.

Sermon Discussion Questions:

  1. Why is it necessary to warn Christians to take care of their hearts?  Can Christians have an evil unbelieving heart that leads them to fall away from the living God?  Explain.  Describe how unbelief might creep into the heart of a Christian and lead them to abandon their faith.
  2. Explain how sin can be so deceitful and hardening to one’s heart.  How does exhortation protect against the deceitfulness of sin and why is the church so crucial in this process?
  3. How is exhortation both intimate and intrusive?  Why does exhortation also require discretion, discernment, and great patience? (See 1 Thessalonians 5:14)
  4. What do you think it means to “share in Christ”? Why is sharing in Christ dependent upon holding “our original confidence to the end”?
  5. According to John 10:24-29, who is it that ensures we will hold on to the very end?  In light John 10, should Christians try to hold on to Jesus even tighter?  Or should we just relax, “let go, and let God”?  If a Christian is not clutching on to Christ, what else is he probably clutching on to?

1 Thessalonians 5:14

14 And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.

John 10:24-29

24 So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.” 25 Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father's name bear witness about me, 26 but you do not believe because you are not among my sheep. 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand.
