Discussion Questions:
-
Why do you think Paul was so thankful to hear of the Ephesians’ faith, seven years after he had left them? Is faith in Christ a fragile thing that dissipates and falls away with time? Why or why not?
-
In v.17, Paul prays that God would give the Ephesians the “Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him”. Why do you think Paul prayed for this? Don’t we as Christians, already know Jesus? What do you think Paul meant by “the eyes of your hearts” and why must they be enlightened?
-
When in your life, under what circumstances, do you need to know Christ more? How does knowing Christ more help you through these circumstances? How can a Christian “know Christ more”?
-
Describe the hope to which God has called you? Why is it important for us to be assured of this hope?
-
Why is it important to be assured of our inherent worth as believers? I.e. that we as Christians, are considered a rich glorious inheritance of God?
-
What do you think is the immeasurable greatness of the power God grants to believers and how do you see this power at work in your own life?
-
Paul ends his prayer by reminding us of the wonder and beauty of Jesus Christ. Why is it important to know how great Jesus is? Why do we need to pray that Christians would know how great Jesus is? How does Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians change the way you pray for your brothers and sisters in Christ?
