Sermon Discussion Questions

  1. Although most Christians will agree that obeying God’s word, even when it doesn’t seem to make sense, is the right thing to do, why do we still have a hard time doing it? What do you think helped Philip, Abraham, and other faithful Christians live by faith and not by sight?  More specifically, how does persecution and suffering help strengthen our faith?

  1. The Holy Spirit’s role throughout this week’s passage was evident in the Ethiopian’s salvation.  How does this story, and passages such as John 6:44, help us in our evangelism?  Should this cause Christians to take a “let go and let God” attitude toward sharing our faith?  Why or why not?

  1. In our sermon, we heard that the entire Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, is all about Jesus. Why is this important for Christians to know, and how should this impact the way we read and study the Scriptures?

  2. Is the Word of God necessary and also effective in leading people to salvation?  Why or why not?  If it is, why do you think so many Christians don’t read and study it more?  What is needed to motivate Christians to prioritize the Word of God above social media, leisure activities, and even work?  When it comes to the gospel, what is truly at stake?

  3. Why did the Ethiopian rejoice in v. 39? Read Paul’s prayer in Ephesians 1:16-19, then describe this joy in more detail.
