Fighting Fear

October 19, 2025 Preacher: David Oda

Passage: Psalm 27:1–14

Please see the Sermon Discussion Questions listed below. We highly encourage you to listen, think, and talk about the sermon. These are questions you can reflect on by yourself, with your family, or with your small group.

Sermon Discussion Questions:

1. What is the most frightening thing you’ve ever experienced? If you were a Christian at that time, how did your faith impact your fear?  If you weren’t a Christian at that time, how would you handle that situation differently, if it happened to you today?  What impact has your faith had on your fears?

2. How does good theology help us to fight fear?  What do you think it means that our theology must be personal?  Explain a time when your theology was “battled tested” and proven to be true.

3. What is worship?  How does worship put God into the right perspective relative to ourselves, our problems and our needs?  Why does worship alleviate fear?

4. What does it mean to seek the face of God?  How does seeking God’s face impact your prayer life? How does your prayer life help you to fight fear?

5. When we go through difficult traumatic circumstances, when we suffer and are in pain, what practical good comes through prayer and the Word of God?

6. What does it mean to be hopeless?  How would this affect your life?  Now define hope.  How should hope affect your life?  Why is it that Christians should be the most hopeful people on the planet?  Why do we sometimes live as though we were hopeless?

7. Is it easier to live by faith when life is easy and pain-free?  Or when life is hard and full of agony?   Do the truths of Psalm 27 apply to the man condemned to burn at the stake for his faith?  If so, how would you comfort such a man using the truths you learned from this passage?
