Sermon Discussion Questions:
1. How does it make you feel to know that in the kingdom of God, you are not irreplaceable; that there is always someone else God has ready to fill your seat? How does this impact the way you live your life?
2. How does knowing the heritage of both Paul and Timothy encourage us, especially those of us from non-Christian or unequally yoked marriages? What should this teach us about the kind of people God can use?
3. In 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 we read about Paul living as a servant of all so that he might win some to Christ. Timothy didn’t have to get circumcised, but he did so in order to be a more effective witness for Christ. How does the Gospel lead to such a self-sacrificing attitude?
4. Should ALL Christians have the same attitude as Paul and Timothy? Why or why not? Who shoulders the responsibility for hardened self-centered hearts? Is it a sovereign God’s fault that more Christians don’t live self-sacrficing lives?
5. Why do you think some people would rather sacrifice, suffer and even become a martyr for a political party or human ideology but not for the cause of Christ?
6. What do you think is the most effective evangelistic tool/event/program that can help the church grow both in numbers and in depth of faith?
7. What would happen at Hawaii Kai Church, in the State of Hawaii, in America, and in the world, if more people started to live like Paul and Timothy, believing in and relying solely upon the power of God’s word?
8. Does your heart break for your lost family members, friends, neighbors, and co-workers? If so, how does that show in the way you live? If not, why not
