Sermon Discussion Questions:

1. Do you believe the work you are currently doing to earn a living matters to God?  If so, how does this belief reveal itself in the way you approach your job?  If not, what is your initial response to the premise of this week’s sermon, that “your work matters to God”?

2. You are created in the image of God. How does your work reflect God’s dominion over creation, or help to bring about order, or demonstrate creativity? In other words, how does your job reflect your being an instrument of God caring for His creation?

3. Think about Jesus’ command to love God and love your neighbor in Matthew 22. How does this command intersect with the work that we do? In other words, how are you loving your neighbor through the work that you do, even if it seems very mundane and trivial?

4. In 1 Corinthians 7:20, Paul elevates what we do to a “calling” of God. Imagine waking up tomorrow and finding a note from the Lord that says, “The work that you will do today is what I’ve called you to. I have appointed you to do this for Me today” How would it change your attitude and approach to your job?

5. How does a right understanding of God’s sovereignty keep the highly successful person humble, and the worker in a lower position satisfied?

6. How has this week’s sermon changed the way you view work in general, and your job in particular
