Sermon Discussion Questions:

1. How do you make sense of the evil and suffering in the world?  How would you explain to an unbeliever how a sovereign, all-powerful, good, loving, benevolent God can exist in the face of all this evil?

2. In Habakkuk’s prayer he laments to God.  Judah was once again under the reign of an evil king (Jehoiakim) and the Babylonians were on the verge of attacking Jerusalem.  When evil surrounds us and festers from within, what can/should the righteous do?

3. Why is real Christian faith not simply escapism from the harsh realities of life? Explain how the power of faith in God can practically help us through even the deepest darkest trials and suffering.

4. Can you learn to have this kind of faith in a classroom or from books? How Is a powerful faith forged?

5. Would you want the ability to overcome all challenges, problems, enemies, even health issues in your own strength? Explain. If you did have that ability, what kind of person do you think you would be?

6. When life makes no sense, when we are suffering and in pain, when we feel hopeless, what do we learn from our passage in Habakkuk?

7. What is the greatest proof that God is real, loving, faithful, and will always be with us, will always keep His promises to us, and will ultimately bring us to victory even through the darkest most painful times?
