Sermon Discussion Questions:

1. Why do you think it’s important for Christians to recognize that we have a King? Do you think most Christians live this way? Explain.

2. God’s holiness means that He is different from all of creation.  He is the eternal, omnipresent, all powerful Creator, and everything else in the universe is part of His time-and-space-bound creation.  If mankind were to really take to heart God’s holiness, how do you think the world would be different?  Sadly, why do you think humanity will never view God this way?

3. How does the Bible emphasize God’s holiness in Isaiah 6?  Does the thought of God’s holy presence make you feel small?  Does His holiness shake you to your foundation as portrayed in v.4?  Why is it important for Christians to feel small in God’s presence and be fearful of His holiness?

4. What did God do or say to cause Isaiah to come undone and dread his own sinfulness?  How does a real and accurate understanding of God’s holiness expose our sin, especialy our idolatry?

5. Isaiah’s deep sorrow over his sinfulness led to the angel touching a burning coal to his lips. In doing so, Isaiah’s guilt was removed and his sin atoned for.  Why must salvation start with a recognition and despair over our sin?

6. Holiness does not come easy.  God doesn’t promise us a pain-free life but He does promise to make us holy along life’s difficult path.  How do trials and suffering help us in our sanctification?  How do God’s many promises help us through life’s dark valleys?
