Discussion Questions

  1. King Balak had a superstitious belief in the god of Balaam. What is the difference between a superstitious belief in “god”, versus true faith in the God of the Bible? How might superstitious belief in “god” exist within Christian churches today? What can we do to prevent this?
  2. Although Balaam showed signs of being a prophet of God, what about Balaam’s life and actions proves he was not a true prophet? Why should Christians today pay special attention to this story thousands of years after the fact?
  3. How would you answer someone who says the Bible is a made-up storybook because it includes such things as a talking donkey? How does the donkey play a pivotal role in this story?
  4. As much as this story is about Balak and Balaam, one of the main takeaways is that God will not go back on His promise and will not allow His people to be cursed. How are Christians freed from the curse of sin and how should this freedom impact the way you live?
