Discussion Questions

  1. What does it mean to fear the Lord?  How does a “fear of the Lord” result in a person being blameless, upright, and one who turns away from evil?

  2. What is repentance and how does a fear of the Lord lead a person towards repentance?  How do you know whether a person is truly repentant?

  3. How was Job’s vast wealth and prosperity a test to his fear of the Lord?  On a scale of 1-10, based on how you currently prioritize your time, energy, and resources, how would you rate your own “fear of the Lord”?  Explain your answer.  Why might this be a relevant question for you to think about?

  4. How should the fear of the Lord impact the way we raise our children and/or care for our family members and friends?  Why do you think we often prioritize earthly things over the human soul?

  5. Did Jesus Christ, God incarnate, have a fear of the Lord?  Explain.  Why should it be easier for a Christian today to live as “God-fearers”?  If that’s the case, then why don’t we?
