Discussion Questions

  1. Before Job’s trial we get a glimpse of a heavenly scene where God shows Himself to be sovereign over His angels, Satan, and His servant Job. What does it mean for God to be sovereign and in control of everything? What does that look like within our universe, our world and in our lives?

  2. Is it hopeful or hurtful to know that during your times of trial and suffering, God is sovereign and in control of all things?  Explain.  What do you think makes the difference between feeling hope or hurt in these situations?

  3. Have you ever experienced significant hardship or loss? What was that experience like for you? What was your response? After listening to this sermon, would you have changed your response? If so, how would you have changed it?

  4. Job came out of his extreme trial worshiping the Lord because he knew the Lord. What does it mean to know the Lord and how do we know Him? What does it mean and look like to know the Lord in our everyday lives?

  5. How does the fact that God sent His Son to die for your sins, help, when we go through extreme times of pain and suffering?   What does the Gospel help us to understand about God’s sovereignty in the midst of our pain?
