Discussion Questions

1. In V.11 Paul says that Jesus gifted the church with the apostles, prophets, evangelists, shepherds, and teachers, all of which focus on the ministry of the word of God. Why is God’s word foundational for equipping the saints for ministry?  What do you think happens when churches focus on conservative political activism, societal issues such as abortion, helping the impoverished, or anything else more than the Word of God?

2. Do you view yourself as being in Christian ministry?  If so, how.  If not, why not.  Why is “every member ministry” absolutely necessary for the church?

3. In what areas do you feel gifted by God and what are some practical ways you can use your gifts to build up the body of Christ?

4. How does being involved in Christian ministry help a person to grow in spiritual maturity? How does it help to protect them from false doctrine, human cunning, craftiness and deceitful schemes?

5. What does speaking the truth in love mean?  What is a “Bible bomb” or “truth grenade” and how is speaking the truth in love different?   How does speaking the truth in love cause the body of Christ to grow so that it builds itself up in love?
