Click here for the sermon discussion questions or see them listed below. We highly encourage you to listen, think, and talk about the sermon. These are questions you can reflect on by yourself, with your family, or with your small group.

Discussion Questions

  1. If you suffered with a debilitating ailment that caused you to be bent over so that you could not fully straighten yourself, would you be in church every Sunday?  Why or why not? What does your answer reveal about the true state of your soul?
  2. While everyone else may have seen a hunchbacked crippled woman, Jesus sees “a daughter of Abraham”. What do you think Jesus sees when He looks at you?
  3. When Jesus healed the woman, her immediate response was to glorify God. How has Jesus healed you and what was your response to this healing?  What does your response say about your understanding of what Jesus has done for you?
  4. Why was the synagogue leader resentful and upset when he saw Jesus heal the crippled woman?  What does this say about what was most important to him?  Why does Jesus call him a hypocrite and how do you think Jesus wanted him to respond to such an accusation?
  5. How do you think the synagogue leader became so calloused, not only to the needs of hurting people, but also such that he could not recognize his own Messiah?  How can we keep ourselves from becoming the same way?
