Discussion Questions

  1. In His last week of life, we find Jesus teaching and preaching the gospel in the temple.  What else do you think He could have been doing to help people know and believe He was the Son of God, the Messiah?  What does this tell us about how Jesus prioritizes the Word of God, and why do you think He does this?

  2. What is authority, where does it come from and why is Jesus the ultimate authority? Why do we sometimes have a problem with authority in general, and sometimes even with Jesus’ authority over our lives?

  3. All authority in heaven and on earth was given to Jesus.  How did Jesus use His authority? (Think about the purpose for which Jesus came to earth)  Why should this help us to submit to His authority?

  4. Why wouldn’t the chief priests, scribes, and elders answer Jesus’ question?  Why couldn’t they submit to Jesus’ authority?

  5. In what area of my life am I afraid of submitting to Jesus’ rightful authority? In what area am I not trusting in His love for me?  What change do I need to make in my thinking, and in my belief about Jesus?
