Discussion Questions

  1. The Jewish religious leaders cared more about the people’s opinion of them than what God’s word said - i.e. “you shall not kill”.  What do you think gives public opinion so much power?  In what ways do even strong believers sometimes bow to the authority of public opinion?  How can we guard ourselves against the pressure of public opinion?

  2. For three years Judas was an eyewitness to Jesus’ power, authority and teaching, and yet he still betrayed him for 30 pieces of silver.  How do you think this was possible and what does this tell us about the “blindness” of the human heart?

  3. Have you ever been disappointed by God?  What does our disappointment reveal about our expectations of God? How can this disappointment lead to a “ship wrecking” of our faith? What do you think we can do to prevent this?

  4. Based on what Scripture reveals about Judas, we can conclude that his motive for following Jesus was driven more by his love for money, rather than his love for the Lord.  What do you think are other “false motives” Christians have for following Christ?  What does it look like when a Christian truly loves and worships Jesus?

  5. At first glance, Jesus appears to be at the mercy of wicked people as well as Satan himself. However the Lord makes it clear that He knows exactly what is going to happen and is in total control of the situation.  What important lesson do we learn from this, and how should this help us when we face various trials?  What truths about God’s character do we need to focus on when we go through times of struggle?
