Discussion Questions

  1. In spite of the incredible suffering that was only hours away, why do you think Jesus yearned to eat this last Passover meal with His friends? (Think about the meaning behind the Passover) What does this tell you about Jesus’ love for sinners like us?

  2. Think about Jesus abstaining from eating the Passover meal with His disciples until a distant future time when the kingdom of God finally comes (Read Revelation 19:7-9)  How does this imagery, displayed by communion, help us to long for Christ’s return?

  3. Explain how communion, the eating of the bread and wine, provide a visual gospel sermon, each time we partake of it?  Who do you think is invited to Jesus’ table and why is it important that we “place a fence” around the communion table whenever we observe it?

  4. Why do you think we need the regular reminder of communion to help us remember and proclaim the greatest event in all of human history?

  5. At the last supper, Jesus declares that one of the 12 will betray Him.  Yet none, save Judas, knew who the betrayer was. Judas was given this final chance to repent and seek forgiveness but ignored it. What does this tell us about the deceitfulness of sin?  How can we ensure that we don’t fall in the same manner as Judas?
