Discussion Questions

  1. What do you think is the essence of betrayal?  What makes betrayal so painful?  What is our natural response toward someone who betrays you?

  2. What does Jesus’ response to Judas’ betrayal tell you about His mercy and love, and what does Judas’ subsequent response tell you about the sinfulness of man?  Have you ever betrayed Jesus? If so, how should you respond?

  3. What do you think Peter’s motive was for trying to kill the high priest’s servant?  Do you think Peter’s actions were commendable?  Was Peter right? What do we learn from Peter?

  4. When Jesus heals the high priest’s servant after Peter chops off his ear, what difference(s) do we see between man’s ways and God’s ways?  Why do you think the kingdom of God cannot be established by power and force?

  5. The wickedness of the Jewish leaders reveals the deceptive nature of the sinful human heart.  We can appear so religious on the outside but have hell and violence in our hearts. Do you think the religious leaders in Jesus’ day were exceptionally evil?  Why do you think they acted this way? What keeps you from becoming the same way?
